Responsibilities
- Lead and coach a team of three senior product designers
- Craft and execute a vision for product design at Beacon and translate it into a growth plan
- Operate as a player-coach, taking on design work where it sets the standard
- Own prioritization across device, mobile, web, print, and business process design
- Build cross-functional connections with Device Engineering, Platform, Clinical Operations, Logistics, Support, and Quality
- Establish processes, standards, and shared systems for design to scale
- Ensure rigorous, well-documented design for regulated products, partnering with Quality and Regulatory
- Own headcount plan, budget, and vendor relationships for the function
- Develop a deep understanding of patients, clinical staff, site teams, and sponsors
- Build the research practice
- Anticipate and address design debt and inconsistency
Requirements
- 10+ years of product design experience, including 4+ years managing designers
- Experience building or maturing a design function
- Portfolio spanning hardware and software experiences
- Experience in medical device, clinical diagnostics, real-world-data, pharma/biotech
- Experience in a regulated industry, navigating design controls
- Familiarity with usability engineering and human factors (IEC 62366, FDA guidance) is a plus
- Energized by coaching senior individual contributors
- Comfortable being hands-on without defaulting to it
- Experience designing service and business process experiences
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
