Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, feedback, and career development support.
- Establish and drive effective Agile development practices, delivery standards, and engineering processes that promote predictable and high-quality outcomes.
- Partner with Product, Operations, and business stakeholders to understand priorities, translate business needs into technical requirements, and align engineering capacity with organizational goals.
- Participate actively in software architecture and technical design decisions, helping shape scalable, maintainable, secure, and reliable solutions.
- Contribute directly to software development and technical problem-solving when needed, maintaining a hands-on connection to the codebase and engineering work.
- Ensure applications and services meet appropriate standards for code quality, performance, security, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Identify and remove technical, operational, and organizational blockers that could affect team productivity or delivery.
- Lead sprint planning, capacity planning, technical roadmap development, prioritization, and delivery coordination.
- Conduct performance management and regular coaching while helping engineers develop their technical skills and progress toward leadership responsibilities.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive engineering culture centered on ownership, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and delivery excellence.
- Support the design and implementation of AI-powered applications, automation initiatives, and other technology solutions that improve business processes and customer experiences.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong foundation in designing, developing, and supporting production-grade applications.
- At least 2 years of people management experience, including experience leading, mentoring, coaching, and developing software engineering teams.
- Strong hands-on coding experience with Java, TypeScript, Node.js, and SQL.
- Demonstrated experience building and supporting cloud-based applications and modern software architectures.
- Strong knowledge of APIs, microservices, scalable distributed systems, and related architectural patterns.
- Experience leading Agile software development teams and applying Agile principles to planning, prioritization, delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical partners.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, combined with the ability to balance technical considerations, business priorities, and delivery requirements.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices is preferred.
- Experience with Azure cloud technologies is preferred.
- Experience developing or supporting AI-powered applications and automation platforms is preferred.
- Experience in mortgage, fintech, financial services, or another regulated technology environment is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and help develop technical leaders is preferred.
- Comfortable operating as a player-coach who can balance people leadership, strategic planning, technical decision-making, and hands-on engineering contributions.
- For remote work, access to a reliable high-speed internet connection is required, with cable or fiber connectivity and Ethernet capability. Minimum connection speeds range from 70/30 Mbps for basic use to 500–1,000/100+ Mbps for heavy usage.
Conditions
- Annual compensation generally ranging from $150,000 to $210,000, subject to factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and applicable location.
