About the company

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Account Director based in the United States.

As an Account Director, you will lead a major scientific publications account and serve as a senior strategic partner to pharmaceutical clients.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day management and successful delivery of a key scientific publications account, overseeing publication plans, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress deliverables, and related communications.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with pharmaceutical clients, acting as a senior point of contact and providing proactive, strategic, and solutions-focused counsel.
  • Partner with Scientific Services and cross-functional teams to translate client objectives into effective publication strategies and ensure high-quality, compliant execution.
  • Manage account financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, profitability, reconciliation, invoicing, and achievement of financial targets.
  • Drive operational excellence by implementing best practices, improving workflows, and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and delivery.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Client Services team members, ensuring their work aligns with account strategy, client objectives, and broader business priorities.
  • Support resource planning, training, and team development in partnership with senior Client Services leadership.
  • Identify opportunities for organic account growth and contribute to proposals, RFPs, RFIs, pitches, and onboarding of new business.
  • Partner with senior account leadership on strategic planning, applying knowledge of the publications landscape, client priorities, and industry trends to strengthen account performance.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced agency environment while maintaining high standards for scientific, operational, and client delivery.
Requirements
  • Significant Client Services experience within a medical communications agency, with substantial experience managing scientific publications accounts.
  • Proven experience overseeing complex publication programs and a strong understanding of publication planning, scientific communications, and compliant delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop trusted relationships with pharmaceutical clients and provide proactive, commercially aware, solutions-oriented guidance.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including experience with budgets, forecasting, profitability, reconciliation, invoicing, and overall account performance.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing Client Services professionals while collaborating effectively with Scientific Services and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project and operational management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Strategic and commercially minded approach, with a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to strengthen client partnerships and generate organic account growth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality, scientifically valuable communications in a client-focused environment.
Conditions
  • Compensation: $110,000–$145,000 USD base salary, depending on experience, skills, geographic location, and other relevant factors.
