Our partner is looking for a Senior Director of Engineering based in British Columbia or Ontario, Canada. This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps.
Responsibilities
- Lead a 50+ person Talent Engineering organization spanning multiple engineering teams, managers, and layers of leadership across a portfolio of customer-facing products.
- Make thoughtful tradeoffs between customer needs, product priorities, engineering investment, quality, reliability, scalability, and organizational capacity.
- Coach, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior leaders, raising the bar for leadership effectiveness, execution, and organizational health.
- Establish the systems, processes, and operating practices required for multiple teams to plan effectively, deliver reliably, and continuously learn and improve.
- Partner closely with Product and Design leadership to define product strategy, roadmap priorities, engineering plans, and measurable customer outcomes.
- Ensure products deliver a high-quality, reliable, and engaging experience for customers globally while supporting a strong pace of innovation.
- Represent the engineering organization in conversations with key prospects and customers, providing technical and product perspective where appropriate.
- Collaborate with broader Engineering leadership to establish department-wide strategies, goals, and organizational priorities.
- Oversee engineering investment across a diverse product portfolio and ensure resources are aligned with the highest-impact opportunities.
- Encourage experimentation and innovation around AI-enabled experiences and identify opportunities to apply emerging technologies to talent management.
Requirements
- 10+ years of engineering management experience, including at least 5 years leading organizations made up of multiple engineering teams and multiple layers of leadership.
- Proven experience managing engineering investment across a portfolio of products and making effective resource and prioritization decisions in constrained environments.
- Demonstrated history of delivering high-quality products where customer trust, reliability, scalability, and performance are critical.
- Strong executive-level judgment, autonomy, ownership, and accountability, with the ability to operate with a CEO mindset.
- Proven ability to develop engineering leaders, including both engineering managers and senior individual contributors.
- Strong product intuition and the ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Design, Engineering, and broader company leadership.
- Excellent communication and executive presence, with the ability to influence decisions across functions and organizational levels.
- Experience building and scaling engineering organizations, processes, and operating models that support sustainable growth.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical execution and make clear decisions amid ambiguity and competing priorities.
- Curiosity about artificial intelligence and its potential to transform how organizations develop, engage, and support their people.
- Strong commitment to creating collaborative, inclusive, high-performing engineering cultures.
- Candidates must reside in British Columbia or Ontario, Canada.
Conditions
- Estimated annual cash salary of CAD $270,000–$360,000.
