About the company

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Java Engineer based in United States.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the migration of legacy monolithic applications into scalable, maintainable Java-based microservices architectures.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
  • Build production-grade applications using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and related modern development frameworks.
  • Deploy and manage applications within AWS-based Kubernetes environments using containerization and orchestration technologies.
  • Optimize database performance, scalability, reliability, and data access across PostgreSQL, MySQL, or comparable relational database systems.
  • Implement authentication, authorization, OAuth, and secure coding practices throughout application development.
  • Develop and maintain integrations with internal platforms, external systems, and third-party services.
  • Contribute to application modernization initiatives, including migrations from legacy technologies and architectures.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot to support efficient development and problem-solving.
  • Troubleshoot complex application and production issues while contributing to system reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in production support activities and on-call rotations as required.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers while remaining actively involved in hands-on development.
  • Collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to communicate solutions, resolve challenges, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of professional Java development experience.
  • Advanced expertise with Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and RESTful API development.
  • Proven experience modernizing legacy applications and transitioning monolithic systems to microservices architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational database technologies.
  • Knowledge of OAuth, authentication, authorization, and application security best practices.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills and the ability to mentor engineers while maintaining a hands-on development role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within distributed teams.
  • Ability to work with CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices is preferred.
  • Experience with Ruby-to-Java migrations is a plus.
  • Federal government or healthcare IT experience is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Must have lived continuously within the United States for the previous three consecutive years to satisfy federal background investigation requirements.
  • Must successfully complete a government suitability review and background investigation.
Conditions
  • Annual salary range of $130,000–$150,000.
  • Fully remote position within the United States.
