Electrical Engineer

Toast’s Hardware team designs and develops hardware devices with JDM and ODM partners, focusing on Android devices and accessories and long-term reliability.

• Lay the groundwork for future products as part of the Hardware Team.
• Work closely with Product Management, Product Design Architecture, Industrial Design, and executive leadership on new product definitions.
• Integrate electrical systems throughout devices to enable target use cases and meet product metrics such as thickness, weight, and cost.
• Discuss engineering tradeoffs across antennas, cameras, sensors, displays, and batteries.
• Partner with global Product Engineering teams to bring future products to market, provide ongoing support, and bring lessons learned into next-generation device definitions.
• Use AI tools to enhance development workflows and improve velocity.
• Design, implement, debug, and characterize Electrical Engineering systems for current and future product architectures; design prototype devices to validate new form factors, features, and concepts.
• Optimize electrical-system integration for metrics including size, performance, and cost.
• Plan and lead design validation, including functional verification, RF testing, signal characterization, power modeling and testing, and system coexistence testing.
• Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Layout Engineering, Thermal Engineering, and Signal Integrity teams.
• Advocate for new technology and component development that benefit future product layouts.

• Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 7+ years of equivalent working experience designing, implementing, debugging, and characterizing Electrical Engineering systems.
• Preferred: PCB layout and schematic experience using Cadence and Allegro; WLAN and Bluetooth connectivity experience; understanding of LTE connectivity; payment certification knowledge; soldering skills for assembly and rework.
