About the company

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Director I, AP Physics Generalist, Curriculum and Assessment based in the United States.

This senior-level role leads the quality, validity, and continuous improvement of curriculum and assessment within AP Physics.

Responsibilities
  • Lead assessment development for AP Physics, with primary responsibility for authoring, reviewing, revising, and providing final approval of assessment items and test forms across assigned titles.
  • Independently manage assessment development workflows, including training educator contributors and using generative AI appropriately to improve efficiency, quality, fairness, and innovation.
  • Lead the development and management of formative and summative assessment content and scoring materials through multiple internal and external review stages.
  • Develop assessment forms that align with approved curricula, test specifications, disciplinary expectations, and psychometric standards.
  • Plan and facilitate multiple in-person and virtual meetings with test development committees, including developing agendas, guiding discussions, resolving content issues, and ensuring productive outcomes.
  • Train and supervise subject-matter experts serving as assessment contributors and reviewers.
  • Lead the annual AP Reading and associated scoring activities, coordinating complex workflows throughout the year and producing post-scoring materials for educators and students.
  • Monitor assessment validity, reliability, security, fairness, quality, and reader performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and leading targeted initiatives.
  • Collaborate with psychometricians and curriculum and assessment colleagues to establish fair, reliable, and valid scoring standards and cut scores.
  • Serve as a functional assessment leader across subject areas, sharing expertise, mentoring colleagues, and promoting consistency and efficiency across assessment workstreams.
  • Develop and improve item-development models, training programs, documentation, and processes, including effective and responsible use of generative AI.
  • Support refinement of the AP Physics course framework and collaborate on new instructional products, prototypes, and initiatives designed to address teacher and student needs.
  • Represent the program with academic and professional communities through presentations, speaking engagements, and facilitated discussions when appropriate.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Physics or a directly related discipline, with strong knowledge of current developments and trends in the field; a doctoral degree is strongly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in standardized assessment development or closely related work, with significant expertise in physics.
  • Experience with digital assessment and teaching is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of assessment development, item writing, test design, scoring, and quality assurance processes.
  • Strong ability to apply disciplinary expertise while also navigating psychometric, technical, and educational considerations.
  • Demonstrated curiosity about emerging technologies and willingness to experiment with, adopt, and independently learn new AI-driven and digital tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and academic concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management, organization, planning, documentation, and attention-to-detail skills, including rigorous proofreading.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, complex timelines, and interdependent workstreams while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with educators, academics, technical experts, and colleagues at all organizational levels.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback and fostering productive relationships across diverse perspectives.
  • A learner’s mindset, commitment to continuous improvement, and willingness to use data, research, and stakeholder feedback to inform decisions.
  • A customer-focused and mission-oriented approach, with a strong interest in expanding educational opportunities and student access.
  • Ability to travel approximately 6–8 times per year, plus up to two additional weeks for the annual AP Reading.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Conditions
  • Salary: Hiring range of $112,000–$165,000, with compensation determined by location, experience, qualifications, and relevant market considerations.
