About the company

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Software Engineer based in Canada.

This is a hands-on technical leadership opportunity focused on strategically important digital banking products.

Responsibilities
  • Own the technical architecture and direction for online account opening and online loan application products, ensuring systems are scalable, secure, compliant, and aligned with financial institution workflows.
  • Lead solution design and planning, making architectural and technology decisions that support product strategy, business priorities, and long-term system health.
  • Ensure applications meet financial industry requirements related to KYC/AML, identity verification, regulatory compliance, and data privacy.
  • Design and maintain integrations with core banking platforms and third-party providers supporting identity verification, fraud detection, e-signatures, and other financial workflows.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, and architectural guidance using C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, SQL Server, TypeScript, and Angular.
  • Break complex initiatives into milestones and deliverables while managing scope, dependencies, risks, technical debt, and delivery timelines.
  • Monitor engineering progress and proactively communicate blockers and risks to ensure reliable, high-quality client implementations and go-lives.
  • Lead and mentor engineers through regular coaching, feedback, performance development, and technical guidance while fostering a high-trust culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Product to shape roadmaps, define feature scope, estimate technical effort, and balance customer needs with scalable engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with Implementation, Client Success, and QA teams to understand client requirements, establish quality standards, support UAT readiness, and resolve implementation challenges.
  • Establish strong testing, CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and observability practices to maintain production reliability and high-quality customer experiences.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, respond to production incidents, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement preventative improvements.
  • Hire and onboard engineering talent as the organization grows and contribute to the continued evolution of engineering processes and practices.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership or Lead Engineer capacity.
  • Significant experience in digital account opening, loan origination, financial onboarding, banking technology, or a closely related domain; direct financial technology experience is required.
  • Strong proficiency in C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, and SQL Server, with the ability to contribute directly to backend development.
  • Strong proficiency in Angular and TypeScript for frontend development.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating with core banking systems or third-party financial APIs, particularly solutions involving identity verification, KYC/AML, e-signatures, fraud detection, or related services.
  • Proven ability to architect scalable, secure, and compliant systems within a regulated financial environment.
  • Strong understanding of KYC/AML requirements, identity verification, data privacy, and other considerations relevant to financial applications.
  • Experience leading engineering teams through technical direction, mentorship, architectural decision-making, and delivery management without compromising engineering quality.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, containerization, microservices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, and production observability.
  • Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to balance immediate business priorities against long-term maintainability and scalability.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with Product, QA, Implementation, Client Success, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a high-growth startup environment where processes are continuously being created and improved.
  • Availability to work Eastern Time Zone hours is required.
  • Experience with credit unions or community banks, Corelation Keystone, Jack Henry Symitar, Fiserv Portico, CU Answers, Plaid, Socure, Alloy, DocuSign, business banking workflows, or conversion optimization is an advantage.
