Responsibilities
- Lead Power Apps development: Design, build, maintain, and enhance enterprise-grade canvas and/or model-driven Power Apps serving as the primary interfaces for data entry, workflow routing, approvals, and operational processes.
- Design workflow-driven experiences: Create intuitive screens, forms, and workflows for analysts, coordinators, approvers, and other users, working with human-centered design specialists to ensure solutions reflect real user needs.
- Architect data flows: Build reliable integrations between Power Apps and SQL Server, ensuring application inputs are properly validated, structured, and transferred to the underlying database for downstream use.
- Collaborate on data architecture: Partner closely with data engineering stakeholders to ensure application inputs align with SQL Server schemas, data models, and broader data requirements.
- Automate business processes: Develop Power Automate workflows connecting Power Apps with SQL Server, SharePoint, and other data sources to manage notifications, approvals, escalations, and status tracking.
- Enable analytics and reporting: Structure application data to support accurate, reliable Power BI reporting, with a focus on data quality, clean models, and efficient refresh performance.
- Implement security and accessibility: Configure role-based access and security across Power Apps, Dataverse, and SharePoint while supporting applicable federal security and accessibility requirements, including FISMA and Section 508/WCAG standards.
- Enhance existing applications: Maintain and improve existing Power Platform solutions based on stakeholder feedback, changing workflows, new data sources, and emerging program requirements.
- Lead testing and quality assurance: Develop test cases, lead User Acceptance Testing, coordinate defect resolution, and provide QA support for new and updated applications and workflows.
- Document and manage releases: Maintain clear documentation covering application architecture, data flows, workflow logic, version control, and change management, while supporting train-the-trainer activities and user adoption.
- Drive continuous improvement: Monitor emerging Power Platform capabilities and identify opportunities to automate manual work, simplify workflows, improve performance, and strengthen usability throughout the engagement.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data science, or a related technical field; a master's degree is desirable.
- Professional experience: 8+ years of experience in application or data systems development, including substantial hands-on experience delivering enterprise-grade Microsoft Power Apps solutions.
- Power Platform expertise: Deep expertise with Power Apps, including canvas and/or model-driven applications, with Power Apps development serving as the primary technical focus of the role.
- Workflow development: Strong experience using Power Apps and Power Automate to create forms, approval chains, notifications, escalations, status tracking, and other workflow-driven processes.
- Data and reporting: Experience designing Power Apps solutions that feed Power BI reporting environments, including clean data structures, validation practices, and performance-conscious data models.
- Database integration: Experience building Power Apps solutions that write data to SQL Server, along with practical working knowledge of SQL and database concepts.
- Requirements translation: Ability to transform complex business and program workflows into functional application requirements and intuitive experiences for non-technical users.
- Federal standards: Familiarity with federal data governance, security, and accessibility requirements, including FISMA and Section 508/WCAG 2.0 AA.
- Preferred government experience: Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs or Veterans Health Administration systems, particularly in workforce development, training, learning management, or human capital environments.
- Relevant platforms: Familiarity with systems such as Talent Management System (TMS 2.0), HRSmart, SharePoint Online, and related data flows is preferred.
- Dataverse: Experience using Dataverse/Common Data Service, including table/entity design and relationships, is desirable.
- Advanced Power Platform skills: Proficiency with Power FX, Power Automate expressions, and custom JSON formatting for SharePoint list views is a plus.
- User-centered development: Knowledge of Human-Centered Design, Human-Systems Integration, or UX practices applied to workflow and application development is beneficial.
- Collaboration: Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
