About the company
Graphcore builds next-generation AI compute, from semiconductors and software to systems at datacenter scale. It is owned by SoftBank Group and works with other companies in the SoftBank family. The Accelerator Modelling Team works across architecture, hardware and software in a small team, with support from the team lead and senior members and a buddy system.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test and refine models and simulations for next-generation AI accelerators to predict performance, power consumption and scalability, providing evidence for engineering decisions.
- Investigate how complex workloads behave; contribute to planning, design, implementation and testing; help other teams integrate future hardware versions; and help scale distributed modelling environments.
- Develop and debug modelling code, test whether models capture workload behaviour, and explain trade-offs identified through modelling.
- Work with architects, engineers and machine learning researchers; modelling results inform hardware decisions.
- Ask questions, challenge existing approaches and share ideas for improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Maths, Machine Learning, Data Science or a related field.
- Strong C++ programming skills gained through study, projects, personal coding or practical experience.
- Understanding of computer science fundamentals and an interest in lower-level software.
- Ability to debug complex problems and explain your thinking clearly; exposure to debugging tools, performance analysis, testing, version control or collaborative software development practices.
- Curiosity about processor architecture, hardware simulation, performance modelling or systems behaviour, and willingness to ask questions and learn through feedback.
- Relevant skills may be demonstrated through coursework, a dissertation, personal or team projects, research or other experience.
Conditions
- Permanent role in the Graduate Programme, starting September 2027, with two years of hands-on learning and development.
- Salary: £45,000 per annum.
- Flexible working; thoughtfully designed office spaces for collaboration, with free food and an on-site barista.
- Up to 5% matched pension, phantom equity, income protection and life assurance, electric vehicle salary-sacrifice scheme, and flexible benefits including private medical insurance and dental cover. Optional benefits include dental cover, health cash plan, private medical insurance, cycle to work scheme and give as you earn.
- Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme without requiring visa sponsorship; work visas cannot be sponsored for Early Careers opportunities.
- Applications may close before the advertised deadline of midnight, 29 November 2026. Applicants should answer the application questions and upload a CV and cover letter. Outcomes are expected by early December; successful applicants are invited to a technical assessment, with final-stage in-person assessments in early spring.
