About the company

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Hardware/Software Installation Technician (Survey Team Lead) based in the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Lead physical technical site surveys at military installations across CONUS and potentially OCONUS locations, evaluating available space, power, cooling/HVAC, connectivity, and infrastructure readiness.
  • Assess existing network infrastructure, including fiber and copper cabling, patch panels, conduit, racks, and related systems, to identify upgrade and installation requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive Site Survey Reports (SSRs), Installation Design Plans (IDPs), floor plans, rack elevations, power calculations, and other engineering documentation.
  • Produce accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support procurement, logistics, and upcoming hardware and infrastructure deployments.
  • Create and maintain technical drawings and network diagrams using Microsoft Visio and/or AutoCAD.
  • Install, configure, test, and troubleshoot IT hardware and associated software, including routers, switches, cryptographic devices, UPS systems, operating systems, and firmware.
  • Load and configure Windows and Linux operating systems and apply required security baselines, including STIG configurations, in accordance with DoD cybersecurity standards.
  • Conduct system burn-in testing, validation, and troubleshooting before final acceptance and deployment.
  • Diagnose complex hardware, software, and interoperability issues in the field and coordinate with engineering and backend technical teams to resolve them.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between the Program Management Office (PMO), government Points of Contact (POCs), military installations, and field personnel.
  • Ensure field activities comply with applicable safety requirements, military installation access procedures, technical standards, and program policies.
  • Provide daily status updates, After Action Reports (AARs), survey findings, and other required documentation throughout deployments.
  • Mentor and support fellow technicians, helping ensure team members remain current with required training, certifications, and program expectations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, combined with approximately 10 years of experience in hardware/software integration and structured cabling.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting technical site surveys in Department of Defense or federal government environments.
  • Active Secret security clearance is required to start; Top Secret clearance is preferred.
  • Strong experience with military or government IT infrastructure, networking, systems integration, and installation environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Visio for network diagrams, floor plans, rack elevations, and related engineering documentation; AutoCAD/CAD experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of power and environmental requirements, including NEMA plugs, UPS sizing, BTU calculations, space constraints, and HVAC considerations.
  • Knowledge of fiber-optic and copper cabling standards, including single-mode, multi-mode, and CAT6.
  • Hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting routers, switches, cryptographic devices, UPS systems, operating systems, firmware, and related IT infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity practices, including STIG implementation and system baselining.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with the ability to produce accurate site survey reports, installation plans, diagrams, BOMs, and status reports.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work directly with government customers, project leadership, engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities, with the ability to coordinate field teams and maintain accountability in demanding deployment environments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 90% of the time, including CONUS deployments and potentially OCONUS assignments.
  • U.S. Army Signal Brigade, DISA, or DoDIN network installation and modernization experience is highly desirable.
  • BICSI Technician or RCDD certification is a plus.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and work in confined spaces such as server closets and raised-floor environments.
Conditions
  • Annual salary: $74,700–$150,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
