Robinhood’s mission is to democratize finance for all. The Backend Platform team builds and maintains shared frameworks, libraries, and tooling used by hundreds of engineers working across backend services.
Responsibilities
- Define and lead large-scale initiatives that improve backend development systems, including frameworks, tooling, and shared libraries.
- Design long-term technical solutions supporting scalability, reliability, and maintainability across backend services.
- Guide the evolution of static analysis, formatting systems, and service scaffolding.
- Partner with infrastructure, security, and product engineering teams to plan and execute platform improvements.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance to improve code quality, system design, and development practices.
- Set technical direction, lead multi-team initiatives, and guide adoption of platform capabilities.
Requirements
- Extensive experience building and scaling backend systems using Go and Python.
- Deep knowledge of backend frameworks such as Django, gRPC, or comparable systems in Go.
- Experience designing internal platforms, developer tooling such as Bazel, or shared infrastructure used by multiple teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects and influence engineering direction across teams.
- Commitment to improving developer workflows, system quality, and maintainability through thoughtful design.
Conditions
- Based in New York City, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.
- Base pay: $230,000–$270,000 USD annually for Zone 1 locations (Menlo Park, New York, Bellevue, and Washington, DC); $203,000–$238,000 for Zone 2 (Denver, Westlake, and Chicago); $180,000–$211,000 for Zone 3 (Lake Mary, Clearwater, and Gainesville). Eligible for bonus opportunities, equity, and benefits.
