About the company

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Special Structural Analysis Engineer 1 - Nuclear based in United States.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to structural engineering and analysis projects for new nuclear facilities, nuclear power plant modifications, upgrades, and other safety-related structures.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, design documentation, and other project deliverables while ensuring compliance with technical, quality, and project control requirements.
  • Perform structural analyses for safety-related structures under a variety of loading conditions, including seismic, impact, impulsive, and explosive loads.
  • Apply knowledge of structural materials, steel design, reinforced concrete design, and applicable engineering methodologies to develop reliable and constructible solutions.
  • Use advanced structural analysis tools such as SAP2000, STRUDL, SASSI, ANSYS, and LS-DYNA to evaluate structural performance.
  • Support designers in developing drawings and provide technical guidance to other engineers involved in project execution.
  • Serve as a technical liaison with clients and provide engineering leadership and subject matter expertise throughout project activities.
  • Perform structural design and assessment for blast and explosive loading using tools such as SBEDS and explicit dynamic analysis in LS-DYNA, following applicable protective design guidance.
  • Collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines to coordinate technical interfaces and resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Participate in client and vendor design reviews, construction coordination activities, and field verification visits when required.
  • Help lead the adoption of automation, AI, scripting, and modern engineering tools to improve calculations, documentation, workflows, and overall project efficiency.
  • Guide and review automated engineering outputs to ensure calculations, analyses, and AI-assisted deliverables meet appropriate technical and quality standards.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • At least 5 years of experience working as part of project teams performing structural design and analysis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STRUDL, SASSI, ANSYS, or LS-DYNA.
  • Strong working knowledge of structural analysis and design codes and standards, including ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
  • Experience with structural design and assessment for blast loads using single-degree-of-freedom tools such as SBEDS, in accordance with UFC 3-340-02 and Protective Design Center guidelines.
  • Experience designing or assessing structures subjected to explosive loading using explicit dynamic analysis in LS-DYNA.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical disciplines and communicate with clients.
  • Ability to take ownership of engineering deliverables, manage priorities, and maintain high standards for technical accuracy and quality.
  • Willingness to lead or oversee the use of automation, AI, Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel, or similar technologies in engineering workflows.
  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field, experience with power plant or industrial structures, construction support experience, or a PE/SE license is considered an advantage.
  • Additional education or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related disciplines is valued.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship for this position.
