Responsibilities
- Advise business and leadership teams on complex legal, regulatory, and risk matters associated with consumer-facing products, services, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Review, draft, and negotiate agreements and provisions supporting new products, commercial partnerships, marketplaces, and other strategic business opportunities.
- Assess legal and regulatory risks throughout the product development lifecycle, recommend appropriate safeguards, and provide practical guidance that enables compliant execution.
- Partner closely with product, technology, engineering, design, marketing, service delivery, compliance, and external counsel teams to understand operational and regulatory implications of new initiatives.
- Translate emerging federal and state laws and regulations into clear, actionable guidance for business stakeholders and help establish agile governance frameworks.
- Advise senior executives and board-level stakeholders on product development, strategic partnerships, legal risks, potential impacts, and mitigation strategies.
- Develop and maintain intellectual property management practices and collaborate with relevant teams to establish frameworks that support innovation and IP development.
- Support continuous improvement across legal and business processes, helping the organization operate with greater speed, consistency, and efficiency.
- Lead and develop direct reports, including hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and compensation recommendations.
- Provide strategic insights to compliance teams and help shape governance structures capable of adapting to evolving regulatory and technology landscapes.
- Handle multiple complex matters simultaneously, exercising independent judgment while balancing legal risk with commercial objectives and customer needs.
Requirements
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with an active license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 10+ years of legal experience advising on product development within regulated industries, gained through a leading law firm, in-house environment, or a combination of both.
- Significant experience advising on new products and services within healthcare, banking, financial services, employee benefits, or similarly regulated sectors.
- Demonstrated experience supporting strategic commercial partnerships and advising senior management, C-suite executives, and/or boards on complex legal and business matters.
- Strong knowledge of regulated-industry requirements, data privacy, and consumer-facing products, with familiarity with UDAP, financial regulations, ERISA welfare benefit plans, HSAs, consumer-directed benefits, GLBA, and HIPAA highly valued.
- Familiarity with evolving federal and state regulations affecting HSAs, healthcare benefits, financial services, and consumer-directed benefits.
- Ability to quickly learn and interpret new regulatory regimes and translate complex legal issues into practical, commercially viable recommendations.
- Strong issue-spotting, analytical, negotiation, risk assessment, and strategic problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the confidence to influence stakeholders while listening effectively and building collaborative relationships.
- Ability to understand complex business models and technology trends and anticipate regulatory developments to support future-ready business operations.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with competing priorities and a high volume of sophisticated matters.
- Solution-oriented mindset with the ability to develop creative approaches to novel legal and business challenges.
- Demonstrated judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong leadership capabilities and a collaborative, hands-on approach to developing people and driving outcomes.
Conditions
- Annual salary range of $203,000–$334,500, with actual compensation based on experience, skills, education, qualifications, and work location.
