The Production Operations / Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Engineer will support the reliability, performance, and availability of mission-critical enterprise systems within a federal technology environment.
This role focuses on maintaining production API Gateway platforms, responding to incidents, and ensuring operational continuity across complex technical ecosystems.
The successful candidate will collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams to troubleshoot issues and improve system resilience.

Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain production API Gateway environments to ensure availability, reliability, and optimal performance.
- Provide operational support for mission-critical systems, including 24/7 incident response activities when required.
- Investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate resolution with technical teams.
- Manage incidents, service requests, and operational workflows using ServiceNow.
- Support vulnerability remediation efforts, security patch implementation, and operational compliance activities.
- Perform backup validation, disaster recovery testing, and recovery readiness activities.
- Monitor application performance, system health, and availability metrics to identify potential issues.
- Create operational dashboards, reports, runbooks, and technical documentation to support effective system management.
- Assist with production deployments, change management activities, and release coordination.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, security, and application teams to resolve technical challenges.
- Contribute to operational improvements by identifying automation opportunities, process enhancements, and reliability improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise production systems and operational environments.
- Experience managing production applications, API Gateway platforms, or similar enterprise technology solutions.
- Hands-on experience with ServiceNow for incident and service management.
- Experience monitoring Linux or Windows server environments.
- Strong background in incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
- Experience creating operational reports, dashboards, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of enterprise API technologies, including API Gateway operations and integrations.
- Familiarity with technologies such as IBM webMethods, Kong, Splunk, AppDynamics, ELK Stack, OpenTelemetry, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, Git, Jenkins, SQL, networking concepts, TLS/SSL certificates, and OAuth is highly valued.
- Experience with cloud platforms, automation tools, or containerized environments is a plus.
- Preferred certifications include ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Security+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), AWS SysOps Administrator, Azure Administrator, or Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to remain calm during incidents and collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an IRS Moderate Background Investigation (MBI)/Public Trust clearance.
