Responsibilities
- Own the design and delivery of features across Toast's Android system applications in Kotlin and Java, including device policy enforcement, out-of-box device setup, and firmware and app updates
- Write technical designs for features that span on-device apps, cloud services, and Toast hardware, and lead effort estimation and planning
- Build reliable background services that run on devices with little to no user interaction, and deploy them safely using feature flags, staged rollouts, and monitoring
- Lead Android application upgrades in support of new Toast Hardware and Android OS upgrades
- Raise the quality bar by expanding end-to-end automated testing on real Toast hardware with Robot Framework
- Lead the investigation of complex production issues across the fleet
- Mentor engineers through code review, design feedback, and pairing
- Collaborate with Product Management, Hardware, QA, and other Software teams
- Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance development workflow
Requirements
- 6+ years of Android application development experience
- Proficient in Kotlin or Java
- Deep experience with Android architecture patterns & libraries such as Hilt, AndroidX libraries, and Kotlin Coroutines
- Solid understanding of Android application and service lifecycles, background work, and inter-process communication
- Experience leading a cross-functional project with multiple engineers, product, QA, & design teams
- Proven ability to debug complex issues across the app, framework, and OS layers using tools such as adb, logcat, and bug reports
- Experience using AI tools throughout the development lifecycle
- Clear written and verbal communication
