About the company

Our partner is looking for a Director, Philanthropy based in Canada. This is a senior philanthropy leadership opportunity focused on building transformational donor relationships and driving meaningful national impact.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects, with personal responsibility for securing an initial $2–$3M annually through strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Develop customized proposals, impact reports, recognition strategies, and donor experiences that strengthen trust, engagement, retention, and long-term giving.
  • Build a seamless giving pipeline from mid-level donors through leadership and major gifts, working closely with philanthropy leadership and colleagues.
  • Design and implement a structured leadership giving program that develops mid-level donors and prepares qualified prospects for major gift engagement.
  • Create personalized donor journeys based on giving capacity, interests, engagement history, and organizational priorities.
  • Monitor donor progression and program performance, using data and insights to refine fundraising strategies and increase revenue and retention.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the Major Gifts team while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture.
  • Translate strategic and organizational priorities into actionable fundraising plans with clear objectives, targets, and performance measures.
  • Partner with senior philanthropy leadership on business planning, revenue forecasting, budgeting, and strategic decision-making across the major gifts portfolio.
  • Monitor performance against fundraising targets and adjust strategies to maximize portfolio growth and program effectiveness.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 6 years of progressive fundraising experience, with a demonstrated record of achievement and success in annual or major giving.
  • Proven expertise in donor relationship management, personalized stewardship, and high-level customer or stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute fundraising strategies that generate measurable revenue growth.
  • Experience managing, recruiting, mentoring, and coaching fundraising professionals in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong planning, project management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and evolving priorities.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex issues into compelling, accessible donor-facing messages.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including experience with appeal segmentation, large datasets, and integrating information from multiple sources to identify actionable insights.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, combined with sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • High degree of initiative, motivation, adaptability, and comfort working in an environment undergoing growth and change.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders and collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.
Conditions
  • Fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in Canada.
  • Competitive annual salary ranging from CAD $93,023 to $116,279.
  • Full-time, Monday-to-Friday schedule, with occasional evening and weekend commitments.
