About the company

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Director, Scientific Communications & Medical Communications based in United States.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the overall strategy and execution of scientific communications, medical information, and publication planning in alignment with pipeline, Medical Affairs, and corporate objectives.
  • Develop disease-state and product-specific scientific materials, including presentations, slide decks, digital resources, and other communication tools, partnering with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Drive an integrated, omnichannel scientific communications strategy while ensuring consistency, scientific accuracy, credibility, and compliance across channels.
  • Develop and execute publication plans covering clinical and nonclinical data, including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and scientific presentations.
  • Partner with investigators, authors, key opinion leaders, internal subject-matter experts, and scientific societies to support high-quality and timely scientific dissemination.
  • Oversee medical information activities, including standard and custom responses to unsolicited inquiries, FAQs, technical response documents, and resources supporting internal and field-based teams.
  • Establish and scale Medical Information capabilities, processes, procedures, and resources, including oversight of external vendors and call center activities where applicable.
  • Manage publication agencies, medical writers, and other external partners to ensure high-quality, compliant, and timely deliverables.
  • Track publication and communications milestones, monitor progress against strategic plans, and provide clear updates and recommendations to internal leadership.
  • Support product launch planning and execution through strategic scientific communications, medical education, congress planning, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Stay informed on evolving medical communications practices, channels, regulatory expectations, and industry standards to continuously strengthen communications programs.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, empowerment, and high-quality execution.
Requirements
  • Advanced medical or scientific degree required, such as MD, PharmD, or PhD.
  • 12+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology Medical Affairs experience, including at least 7 years focused on Medical Communications.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience building, developing, and managing a scientific or medical communications team or function.
  • Proven experience supporting product launch planning and execution within pharmaceutical or biotech environments.
  • Strong background in publications, congress planning, medical education, scientific communications, and omnichannel content strategy.
  • Established experience engaging KOLs, scientific societies, investigators, authors, and other external scientific stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements governing medical communications, including FDA, OIG, PhRMA, and relevant international standards.
  • Experience establishing or managing a Medical Information function is preferred, including vendor oversight and call center management.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, credible, and compelling communications.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven project management capabilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities, workstreams, vendors, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and build alignment across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory, and Commercial teams.
  • Highly proactive, results-oriented, and adaptable, with strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution capabilities.
  • Ability to establish new capabilities, processes, and procedures in a fast-moving organization.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 20% and ability to travel without restrictions; a valid U.S. driver's license is required.
Conditions
  • US salary range: $265,000–$290,000, with actual compensation varying based on geographic location, experience, education, and skill level.
