This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Area Sales Manager – Mid Atlantic based in the United States.
This is a remote field sales opportunity focused on driving profitable growth across a defined Mid-Atlantic territory covering New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland.
The role combines technical sales expertise, strategic account development, and consultative solution selling across direct customers and distribution partners.
You will build relationships with OEMs and machine builders, influence purchasing decisions, and help customers select or develop solutions for complex motion-control applications.
Success will depend on expanding existing business, winning new designs, and becoming a trusted technical advisor to customers and channel partners.
The position operates in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with engineering, product, manufacturing, customer service, and commercial teams.
You will manage a strategic sales funnel, develop key account plans, monitor market trends, and translate customer needs into actionable growth opportunities.
The role requires up to 50% travel and offers significant earning potential through a performance-based sales incentive program.
Responsibilities
- Own sales performance across direct and indirect customer accounts throughout New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland, with a strong focus on developing new OEM and machine-builder relationships.
- Drive specification of products and solutions into new customer designs while increasing share of existing designs and applications.
- Build and execute disciplined territory and account strategies, including purposeful account planning, time management, opportunity funnel management, and CRM utilization.
- Meet assigned targets for profitable sales growth and strategic objectives across the territory.
- Influence purchasing decisions at multiple levels of customer organizations by communicating technical value, business benefits, and return on investment.
- Educate OEMs, machine builders, distributors, and other stakeholders on product differentiation, applications, and value propositions.
- Guide customers toward customized solutions when standard products do not fully address their technical or application requirements.
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with key distributor personnel to facilitate collaborative selling and expand indirect-channel opportunities.
- Develop and maintain Key Account Management Plans for strategically important customers and use CRM to coordinate actions, manage opportunities, and track progress.
- Proactively assess customer needs through ongoing engagement and QBR processes, identifying opportunities to expand relationships, improve customer outcomes, and generate new business.
- Partner with Customer Service, Application Engineering, Product Line Management, Manufacturing Engineering, and other internal teams to deliver effective customer solutions.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor, applying strong knowledge of motors, drives, controls, and related motion-control applications while engaging technical specialists when needed.
- Gather and communicate market intelligence, including industry developments, competitor activity, customer priorities, and demand for emerging product features and benefits.
- Collaborate with distribution and commercial teams on joint end-customer opportunities and coordinated sales strategies.
- Represent the organization at trade shows, conferences, customer meetings, and channel partner events as required.
- Travel up to approximately 50% of the time throughout the assigned territory.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered.
- At least 3 years of outside technical sales experience, preferably involving motion control, motors, drives, controls, automation, or related industrial technologies.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand technical products, applications, and customer requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to sell through consultative, ROI-focused, solution-oriented approaches rather than transactional selling alone.
- Experience developing OEM, machine-builder, distributor, or industrial customer relationships and influencing purchasing decisions across multiple organizational levels.
- Strong industry and application knowledge, with the ability to identify customer pain points and translate them into commercially viable technical solutions.
- Excellent account planning, territory management, opportunity management, and CRM skills.
- Strong relationship-building abilities, with a customer-first mindset and the ability to establish trust with both technical and executive stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal, written, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt messaging to different customer personas and audiences.
- Strong negotiation, conflict-resolution, and influencing skills, combined with sound business judgment and situational awareness.
- Ability to work effectively within a matrixed organization and collaborate across sales, engineering, product, manufacturing, and customer service functions.
- Self-directed, organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing priorities independently across a geographically dispersed territory.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

- Expected base salary of $110,000–$130,000, with final compensation influenced by location, experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
