About the company
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Marketing Enablement & Technology based in Canada.
This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, marketing technology, data, and product strategy, powering systems behind large-scale paid marketing operations. You'll architect and scale backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that support campaign execution, audience targeting, conversion tracking, and third-party integrations.
Responsibilities
- Lead complete engineering projects independently across backend services, APIs, and data pipelines, defining architecture, experimentation, development, and rollout strategies across multiple systems.
- Architect scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient solutions capable of supporting high-throughput marketing operations.
- Identify and address underlying technical problems by developing appropriate abstractions, simplifying system complexity, and promoting reusable solutions.
- Partner directly with Marketing and Product stakeholders to shape requirements, influence product direction, and make thoughtful trade-offs between technical complexity, business value, and delivery timelines.
- Develop and scale systems supporting marketing campaign execution, conversion tracking, audience targeting, and third-party advertising integrations.
- Drive technical improvements across observability, reliability, performance, automation, and system extensibility.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, onboarding, and day-to-day engineering support.
- Contribute to team productivity by improving engineering processes and developing automation that reduces repetitive work.
- Support strategic modernization efforts, technical debt reduction, production reliability, and long-term platform scalability.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, with expert-level Python skills for scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines.
- Proven experience leading complete technical projects from architecture and implementation through experimentation and production rollout.
- Deep expertise with data integration technologies, including Snowflake, SQL, ETL processes, Airflow, and dbt.
- Strong experience designing systems for performance, scalability, reliability, and robustness, including comprehensive observability through logging, metrics, and tracing.
- Strong product mindset, with the ability to investigate complex problems, influence product direction, and balance technical and business considerations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to mentor engineers, build alignment across teams, and explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Experience designing automation frameworks and reusable abstractions that improve engineering productivity and system extensibility is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of advertising platform APIs such as Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and Snapchat Ads, as well as large-scale conversion tracking, is preferred.
- Strong understanding of digital marketing operations and performance marketing metrics such as ROAS, LTV, CAC, and CPA is preferred.
- Experience with cloud cost optimization, chaos engineering, disaster recovery, technical debt management, or legacy system modernization is a plus.
- Knowledge of security-by-design principles and experience leading production incident response is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to improve engineering productivity and contribute to AI-assisted development infrastructure is preferred.
- Strategic, adaptable, and collaborative approach to solving complex technical and business problems.
