Compiler Performance Engineer

Responsibilities

• Define the compiler's performance direction by analyzing benchmarks, production workloads, and customer requirements
• Lead design and implementation of complex optimizations across compiler pipelines and code generation
• Make key architectural decisions on optimization pipeline, compilation-time budgets, tiered compilation
• Drive design of interfaces between compiler, runtime, and garbage collector
• Lead engineering efforts to support new hardware platforms and product capabilities
• Provide technical guidance to senior engineers, review designs and code
• Investigate performance bottlenecks at microarchitecture level
• Contribute to upstream LLVM development
• Collaborate with runtime, GC, and product engineering teams

Requirements

• At least 8 years of professional experience developing optimizing compilers or JIT compilers
• Demonstrated experience leading architecture and design of major compiler components
• Expert-level proficiency in C++
• Deep knowledge of compiler optimization techniques and code generation
• Advanced performance analysis skills (microarchitecture, benchmarking, profiling)
• Understanding of trade-offs between peak performance, compilation time, warmup, code size
• Strong technical communication and collaboration skills
• Preferred: recognized contributions to LLVM or another major compiler project
• Preferred: experience with JIT compilers for managed languages (HotSpot C2, Graal)
