About the role
As a Senior Software Engineer on the MVR team, reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will build and evolve the systems that power Checkr's motor vehicle record screenings, helping customers make safe, fair, and fast decisions about the drivers on their platforms.
Responsibilities
- End-to-End Ownership: Lead the development lifecycle for complex MVR features, from ideation and technical design through implementation, release, and ongoing operation
- System-Level Strategy: Define and drive the technical direction for MVR systems
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with Data Supply Chain, Supply Chain Operations, Product, and Operations
- Engineering Excellence: Design, build, and maintain high-performance services
- Operational Reliability: Proactively identify systemic risks across MVR data flows, lead incident response and root-cause analysis
- Technical Leadership: Mentor engineers on the team and across the organization
- AI-First Mindset: Embrace an engineering culture where AI tooling is standard practice
Requirements
- Senior Backend Expertise: 5+ years of experience building scalable backend systems, with strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language and a deep understanding of relational databases, ORMs, and RESTful APIs
- Distributed Systems Experience: A proven track record of designing and maintaining reliable distributed systems, including hands-on experience with microservices, CI/CD, and asynchronous or event-driven architectures
- Systems Thinking: The ability to reason about a platform end to end, weigh architectural trade-offs
- Data Integration & Quality: Experience integrating with external data providers or third-party APIs
- Ownership & Communication: Full-cycle ownership of your work
- An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action
Conditions
- On-target Earnings OR Base Salary range (San Francisco, CA): $185,000 — $218,000 USD
