The Solution Lifecycle team is looking for a curious, growth-minded Senior Software Engineer I to work on building the next generation of our platform while tackling meaningful distributed systems challenges.
Responsibilities
Design and build scalable back-end services for Smartsheet's next-generation applications, solving complex distributed systems challenges.
Help build and maintain the core infrastructure that serves as the backbone for Smartsheet.
Contribute to managing and upgrading large-scale database infrastructure, maintaining complex replication topologies, and automating core operations using AWS, Golang, MySQL, Terraform, Temporal, and GitLab-CI.
Work closely with the team every day in a real-time development environment (mob programming).
Take part in code reviews and architectural discussions.
Use Test-Driven Development (TDD) to ensure foundational systems are resilient.
Actively use AI tools to improve personal and team efficiency.
Participate in on-call rotations.
Requirements
5+ years of experience and proficiency in at least one modern programming language. Go experience is a plus but not required. Java, Kotlin or Python backgrounds translate well.
3+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.).
A strong desire to learn Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and an eagerness to understand database internals and reliability (MySQL).
5+ years software development experience building highly scalable, highly available applications.
Experience developing, documenting, and supporting REST APIs.
A genuine interest in team-centric engineering practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
1+ year professional experience leveraging AI to improve personal productivity.
A BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical industry experience).
Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis.
