Responsibilities
- Define Metrics & Telemetry: Partner with engineering to design, log, and validate high-frequency telemetry. Establish KPIs for AVC products that directly impact creators and players.
- Transform & Visualize Data for Actionable Insights: Access raw system telemetry, build robust analytics pipelines, and deliver insights that directly optimize engine performance and media delivery.
- Design Experiments & Causal Analyses: Lead A/B testing and causal inference to evaluate product quality tradeoffs, validate feature launches, and shape data-driven product decisions.
- Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Engineering, Product, TPMs, and partner teams (Creator, Social, Growth, Infrastructure, etc.) to navigate ambiguous problem spaces.
- Shape Platform Architecture: Directly influence how core AVC systems evolve to deliver a scalable, high-performance platform for creators and players worldwide.
Requirements
- Education: Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field with a focus on system analysis (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience: 6+ years as a Data Scientist with a proven track record working on high-volume telemetry and system performance optimization.
- Data Engineering at Scale: Deep expertise processing massive, noisy datasets (e.g., crash logs, telemetry pings) and building scalable reporting pipelines.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to use first-principles reasoning to debug complex, ambiguous system behavior.
- Technical Communication: Experience translating deep technical results for engineering leaders and using data storytelling to guide strategic investments.
Nice to Have:
- Direct experience with game engines, audio/video products, or real-time interactive systems.
- Background in real-time systems performance tuning or game development analytics.
Conditions
- For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.
- Annual Salary Range: $307,430 — $373,680 USD
- Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
