Responsibilities
- Build and evolve the core platforms behind every visibility product — event ingestion, milestone computation, webhook and notification delivery, scheduled work, and shared APIs used across all modal teams.
- Design event-driven systems that process high-throughput carrier data reliably and with low latency.
- Own reliability, performance, and scalability of the platforms your team operates.
- Build systems in a multi-cloud environment (AWS and GCP).
- Partner with modal engineering teams across Ground, Ocean, Air, and Orders to expose platform capabilities.
- Share ownership of all facets of software delivery, including development, operations, and test.
- Assume on-call responsibilities for systems built and owned by your team.
- Invest in tools, monitoring, and automation to improve on-call experience.
Requirements
- 5+ years professional experience building large scale and real time or near real time cloud systems.
- Strong programming and debugging skills, with proficiency in Java Backend.
- Demonstrated experience with systems that operate at high scale — high event throughput, tight latency SLAs, and high availability.
- Experience designing and operating event-driven and stream-processing systems on Kafka or Kinesis.
- Experience creating and working with scalable Java-based micro-services.
- Experience working with databases (preferably Postgres or other SQL based DB).
- Experience building systems in a multi-cloud environment (AWS & GCP).
- Experience working in an agile software development environment.
- Desirable: building shared platforms, investigating large codebases, REST/OpenAPI/Swagger, Docker & Kubernetes, DynamoDB, MongoDB, observability tooling.
