About the company
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that are safe and beneficial for users and society. Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. The team works on large-scale research efforts to advance steerable, trustworthy AI.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate systems that determine access to Anthropic’s most capable models.
- Build a platform for teams to launch and run trusted access programs, moving access rules from code into data so that new models and complex programs can launch simply and scale.
- Develop a reusable identity and business verification service (KYC/KYB), integrate verification vendors, protect sensitive personal data, expand into new regions, and build fair customer review and appeal paths.
- Evolve core services behind access decisions, including services that grant and hold access and the customer and user identity models they rely on; keep services highly available and consistent across Anthropic products and cloud platforms.
- Shape architecture through written proposals, review key designs, mentor engineers, share on-call duties, lead incident response, and support emerging programs.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer, ideally at tech-lead level or equivalent; comfort working across the stack as needed.
- Strong product sense and ability to work with cross-functional partners, including non-engineers, to shape and execute strategy in new domains.
- Regular use of AI tools to design, build, and review software.
- Experience designing and operating production distributed systems on a critical path where correctness, latency, and availability matter.
- Ownership from design through build, deployment, operations, and iteration.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, make independent technical decisions, and set technical direction adopted by other engineers and teams; ideally experience in both 0-to-1 and mature settings.
- Interest in building robust, scalable systems and in the societal impacts of AI safety.
- Strong candidates may also have experience with identity, access control, or authorization systems at scale; fraud, risk, trust and safety, or KYC/KYB systems and verification vendors; regulated or compliance-sensitive environments and sensitive personal data; and cloud platforms or partner ecosystems such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.
- Minimum education: bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Required field of study: a field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
