Responsibilities
  • Define, maintain, and continuously refine an organization-wide organizing model, including the vision, culture, methodologies, practices, and indicators needed to measure progress.
  • Lead the design and delivery of curricula, training frameworks, direct-support programs, and other initiatives that strengthen organizing capabilities among staff, volunteers, and managers.
  • Develop annual and long-term programming aligned with organizational and Field Department priorities, while introducing emerging programs in response to changing conditions and strategic opportunities.
  • Establish evergreen training resources to onboard and develop organizing skills across the organization, ensuring consistency while adapting programs to different needs and contexts.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness, organizational health, adoption, and outcomes, using data and feedback to inform future programming, resource allocation, and growth opportunities.
  • Drive the adoption and effective use of organizing technology, tools, systems, and analytics, working across departments to improve practices, definitions, resources, and support.
  • Build trusted, collaborative relationships with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders, representing the organizing culture and capacity function across the organization.
  • Lead and develop a team of up to eight staff members through clear priorities, coaching, performance management, professional development, and accountability.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, inclusive, and values-aligned team culture that supports learning, feedback, and shared leadership.
  • Develop and manage the team budget, align resources with strategic priorities, and comply with relevant financial and operational policies.
  • Support fundraising, grant reporting, presentations, and other strategic initiatives as needed.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience leading impactful grassroots organizing campaigns and developing strong organizing programs at scale.
  • Significant experience managing organizers and teams across both technical and people-centered campaigns, with a strong understanding of volunteer leadership, development, and engagement.
  • Deep knowledge of organizing theory and methodology, ideally across multiple organizing approaches or schools of thought, with the ability to apply theory effectively to real-world situations.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing training programs and curricula for diverse audiences, combined with strong facilitation skills.
  • Excellent visionary communication skills, with the ability to articulate strategy, goals, priorities, and action plans in ways that inspire alignment and commitment.
  • Strong people-management experience, including setting expectations, driving accountability, providing feedback, coaching staff, and cultivating positive, collaborative cultures across remote and geographically distributed teams.
  • Strong systems-thinking abilities, with the capacity to understand connections across teams, programs, organizational levels, and local-to-national initiatives.
  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, self-reflection, equity, and understanding how systems of oppression, privilege, and power influence organizational work.
  • A constructive and solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to turn challenges into opportunities, encourage growth through mistakes, and bring authenticity, kindness, resilience, and humor to collaborative work.
  • Experience working with national field programs, membership-based organizations, or federated networks is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with organizing technology such as VAN, Scale to Win, or Hustle is a plus, particularly experience connecting technology adoption with organizing methodology.
  • A proven track record of achieving goals within large, complex organizations involving both staff and volunteer leadership.
  • Experience managing budgets and/or fundraising; experience with grant proposals and individual donor relationships is an advantage.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to successfully advance complex strategies and initiatives involving multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to comply with financial, employment, operational, and applicable external requirements.
Conditions
