About the company

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical), Data Centers based in Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and execute full lifecycle commissioning activities across L0-L6 for small, medium, and large-scale data center projects.
  • Lead the development, review, and approval of mechanical commissioning test scripts and procedures from L1-L5, applying relevant ASHRAE commissioning requirements and guidelines.
  • Review design drawings, specifications, and technical submittals and develop or validate mechanical deliverables such as Sequences of Operation and Test and Balance plans.
  • Perform hands-on commissioning of critical mechanical systems and equipment, including chillers, cooling towers, CDUs, CRAHs, CRACs, RTUs, AHUs, and high-density liquid cooling systems.
  • Conduct pre-functional inspections, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, heat-load testing, scenario testing, and network diagnostic activities.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and system issues, document findings, and coordinate corrective actions with contractors, vendors, controls teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary commissioning point of contact for mechanical infrastructure, controls, and monitoring systems throughout project delivery.
  • Develop detailed SOPs and Methods-of-Procedures and compile project documentation into comprehensive, site-specific Systems Manuals.
  • Coordinate multiple commissioning activities, schedules, resources, and stakeholders while maintaining strong project communication and technical quality.
  • Support proposals, team planning, budget management, and the preparation of detailed commissioning reports using QA/QC and project platforms such as BIM360, CxAlloy, and Facility Grid.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of documented experience in data center and/or mission-critical commissioning, ideally including greenfield projects of 25MW or greater.
  • Demonstrated experience with third-party commissioning of controls and automation systems, chillers, cooling towers, CDUs, CRAHs, CRACs, RTUs, and AHUs.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical commissioning methodologies, critical infrastructure, system testing, and facility performance validation.
  • Experience with high-density liquid cooling systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong project management and coordination capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent commissioning activities and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • An engineering or technology degree is preferred, although equivalent relevant industry experience may be considered.
  • Professional commissioning certification from a recognized industry authority is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng/PE) and/or PMP certification is an advantage.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight to client sites across Canada for up to approximately 30% of the time, generally for assignments of no more than two weeks.
Conditions
  • Estimated base salary of CAD $125,400–$156,840 per year, with final compensation determined by qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
