This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Platform Engineer based in Canada.
Responsibilities
- Own and scale the cloud infrastructure supporting the platform, including compute, networking, and core data services.
- Lead the development and productization of BYOC and private-cloud deployments, including provisioning, upgrades, monitoring, and operational scalability.
- Build and improve Infrastructure as Code and GitOps foundations, creating reusable and reliable systems that enable a small engineering team to operate efficiently.
- Establish reliability as a core product capability by defining meaningful SLOs, improving observability, and developing trusted incident-management practices.
- Own and evolve the data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, and ClickHouse, as usage and workloads grow.
- Drive infrastructure-related security and compliance initiatives covering areas such as SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, penetration testing, and enterprise security reviews.
- Make high-impact technical decisions that shape the infrastructure roadmap, engineering practices, and broader product strategy.
- Collaborate closely with developers and customers to understand infrastructure challenges and translate them into practical, scalable solutions.
- Contribute to a culture of strong ownership, pragmatic decision-making, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or a closely related discipline, with a proven track record of operating high-traffic production systems.
- Deep hands-on Kubernetes experience, combined with strong judgment around when Kubernetes is appropriate and when alternative approaches are preferable.
- Demonstrated experience operating software in environments outside your direct control, such as BYOC, single-tenant, on-premises, or air-gapped environments.
- Strong AWS expertise, with exposure to GCP and Azure considered an advantage.
- Extensive experience with Terraform, including reusable modules, secure state management, and multi-account cloud architectures.
- Strong database expertise, particularly PostgreSQL, including performance optimization, migrations under load, and replication.
- Practical experience with security and compliance programs such as SOC 2 or ISO audits, penetration testing, and enterprise security reviews.
- A strong product mindset and developer empathy, with the ability to understand customer problems and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Familiarity with TypeScript and Node.js is valuable for collaborating across the broader technology stack.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment.
- A proactive, pragmatic, and low-ego approach, with a willingness to take ownership during incidents and help unblock teammates.
- Demonstrated autonomy and comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment with ambiguity and evolving priorities.
- Based in North America, LATAM, or Europe.
