This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Patent Litigation Consulting (High-Tech IP) based in India.
This is a senior leadership opportunity focused on guiding high-tech intellectual property consulting across complex patent litigation and licensing matters.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop technical consultants and IP experts, including distributed contributors across multiple locations, with responsibility for hiring, performance management, coaching, career development, and retention.
- Own delivery across a portfolio of concurrent patent litigation, licensing, and IP consulting engagements, including scoping, planning, budgeting, staffing, milestones, utilization, risk management, and on-time delivery.
- Serve as the senior delivery owner for high-value and time-sensitive matters, proactively identifying dependencies and escalating risks with practical solutions.
- Establish and maintain high-quality standards for technical work, including review protocols, documentation, peer review, defensibility checks, and consistent methodologies.
- Build repeatable playbooks, templates, training programs, and operational processes that improve delivery efficiency and reduce reliance on individual expertise.
- Champion the adoption of AI-enabled tools and help shape technology, workflows, and knowledge-management practices used by technical teams.
- Manage senior client relationships by leading status discussions, resolving escalations, advising on technical approaches, and communicating findings to legal, executive, financial, and other non-technical audiences.
- Direct and quality-control technical analyses involving claim charts, source code review, reverse engineering, technical due diligence, patent portfolio analysis, damages-supporting work, and expert report preparation.
- Develop technical narratives that connect rigorous analysis with litigation strategy and support expert witnesses through technical briefing, analysis direction, and preparation of supporting exhibits.
- Support account expansion by identifying follow-on opportunities within existing client relationships and collaborating with business development teams, while keeping delivery leadership as the primary focus.
- Represent the practice at industry events, panels, and professional education programs while remaining current on relevant technology, intellectual property, and litigation trends.
- Partner with functions including legal, finance, product, and people operations to improve cross-functional processes, operating standards, and organizational effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline; an advanced degree, MBA, or JD is a plus.
- 10+ years of combined experience in technical consulting, IP strategy, patent litigation support, licensing, patent law, or related fields, including senior client-facing delivery leadership.
- At least 5 years of direct people-management experience with responsibility for hiring, performance reviews, coaching, development, and team growth.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent programs or projects, including budgeting, resource allocation, utilization, dependencies, and risk management.
- Deep, hands-on expertise in at least one high-tech domain, such as telecommunications and wireless, semiconductors and hardware, AI/ML and cloud, software and platforms, or consumer, automotive, and medical technologies.
- Familiarity with patent litigation and IP workflows, including infringement and invalidity analysis, claim charts, source code review, expert reports, IPR and post-grant proceedings, patent licensing, patent monetization, SEPs, FRAND commitments, and trade secret matters.
- Strong analytical capabilities and sufficient technical depth to direct and quality-control work involving source code, data analysis, and AI-assisted analytical tools.
- Strong program and project management capabilities, with experience using structured operating rhythms, project tracking platforms, utilization reporting, capacity planning, and leadership reporting.
- Proven ability to lead distributed or cross-time-zone teams and allocate shared technical resources effectively.
- Excellent client-management and stakeholder-engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical specialists, executives, attorneys, judges, juries, and other non-technical audiences.
- Exceptional technical writing and presentation skills for reports, whitepapers, expert materials, and legal documentation.
- A track record of building processes, standards, methodologies, or internal tools that improve team performance and delivery quality.
