About the role
Ottimate is expanding into the retail and grocery market. The SMS Adapter makes store-level data usable: a secure connector that runs at the store or corporate office, pulls data directly from the store's system, and syncs it to Ottimate's AP platform. We're looking for a software engineer to own this adapter end-to-end.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the adapter that connects to in-store systems, starting with BRdata, and syncs invoice items, vendor, and PO data to Ottimate.
- Design and harden a reliable sync process: delta and full syncs, retry and backoff behavior, conflict handling, and clear failure visibility.
- Own local data handling and credential storage so the adapter can run unattended and securely on a store's machine.
- Build and improve the setup and monitoring experience for store staff and support.
- Establish strong automated test coverage for the adapter across all target deployment environments (Windows is the primary target).
- Own packaging, updates, and installation for software running on store-owned machines.
- Work directly with pilot retail/grocery customers to diagnose environment issues.
- Define and evolve the adapter's data model and mapping layer.
Requirements
- +5 YoE in strong software engineering experience, with a track record of owning a product end-to-end.
- Experience building and shipping software that runs on end-user machines, including packaging and distribution.
- Solid database experience, including reverse-engineering schemas in third-party systems.
- A track record of writing dependable integration and sync code: idempotency, retries, partial-failure handling, observability.
- Practical testing instincts, including integration and end-to-end tests.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity.
- Bonus: Prior experience with retail/grocery back-office systems, POS integrations, or field-deployed software.
Conditions
- Compensation: $160,000-180,000 USD /year.
