Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, development, and scaling of complex software systems, AI-powered applications, and agent-driven experiences.
- Partner with engineering teams to deliver initiatives spanning platform modernization, product evolution, and new product development, adapting engineering approaches to balance speed, scalability, and maintainability.
- Establish technical direction for large, cross-team initiatives and make architectural decisions aligned with long-term platform strategy.
- Identify and address performance, reliability, scalability, and architectural bottlenecks before they become larger operational challenges.
- Explore ambiguous technical problems through rapid prototyping and hands-on development, helping teams determine viable solutions through experimentation.
- Develop AI-enabled infrastructure, automation, engineering tools, and intelligent assistance capabilities that reduce manual effort and improve development workflows.
- Create practical guardrails and quality practices that support safe, reliable, and effective AI-assisted development.
- Apply AI-native development practices, including automation, validation, and engineering harnesses that improve software quality and delivery efficiency.
- Strengthen engineering practices through thoughtful code reviews, testing strategies, and pre-production quality controls.
- Capture system behavior and technical requirements from source code, tests, logs, documentation, and subject-matter experts.
- Drive alignment across teams, influence important technical decisions, reduce ambiguity, and help engineers make better decisions more quickly.
- Create durable technical assets such as runbooks, decision records, tests, and documentation that enable teams to maintain and evolve solutions independently.
- Share technical context and expertise across product domains while raising the capabilities and technical standards of surrounding engineering teams.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience building and scaling enterprise software systems, with demonstrated ability to operate at a Staff+ level across multiple teams or technical domains.
- Proven experience leading technical strategy, system architecture, and complex engineering initiatives across teams.
- Hands-on experience developing agentic AI solutions and using AI as a primary collaborator in real-world software development.
- Strong background in distributed systems, platform architecture, and designing systems for scalability, reliability, flexibility, and maintainability.
- Experience driving high-impact initiatives across multiple engineering teams and delivering production-quality outcomes within small, focused, time-boxed teams.
- Demonstrated expertise in at least two delivery environments, such as platform modernization, iterative product development, or ambitious greenfield initiatives.
- Strong systems thinking and technical judgment, including the ability to anticipate second-order effects and make sound architectural trade-offs.
- Experience improving engineering quality through approaches such as TDD, BDD, load testing, stress testing, chaos testing, invariant testing, mutation testing, or comparable practices.
- Ability to infer behavioral specifications from existing codebases, tests, logs, system behavior, and conversations with subject-matter experts.
- Proven ability to act as a force multiplier for other engineers by providing technical guidance, sharing knowledge, and raising engineering standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a consistent ability to create clear, useful, and durable technical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, work collaboratively across teams, and turn complex technical challenges into practical solutions.
- Deep expertise in a technical domain that can materially improve system architecture, engineering effectiveness, or developer experience.
