Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and architecture of trading-related services, making informed trade-offs while considering long-term scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- Lead roadmap planning and delivery by translating ambiguous business objectives into prioritized, sequenced engineering work and ensuring predictable execution.
- Stay hands-on with development, contributing code, participating in design reviews, and maintaining a high technical standard across the team's systems.
- Manage day-to-day engineering execution, including planning cycles, removing blockers, tracking work, and maintaining clear visibility for stakeholders.
- Own production reliability, latency, throughput, and correctness targets, including on-call health, incident response, and follow-through on corrective actions.
- Hire, onboard, mentor, and develop engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, performance management, and career development.
- Collaborate closely with product, operations, compliance, clearing, and other engineering teams to deliver cross-functional initiatives.
- Establish strong engineering practices around system design, observability, benchmarking, documentation, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Senior- or Staff-level software engineering experience with a proven track record of leading engineers, either as a formal people manager or technical lead.
- Previous professional software engineering experience within trading or exchange environments, such as OMS, EMS, exchanges, market making, algorithmic trading, or quantitative trading.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, provide constructive feedback, and raise the technical capabilities of a team.
- Strong track record delivering complex systems, including defining scope, sequencing work, managing trade-offs, and making pragmatic decisions under ambiguity.
- Strong coding experience across low- and high-level languages such as C/C++, Go, Zig, Rust, Java, Scala, or Python.
- Deep knowledge of low-latency and high-throughput optimization, concurrency, distributed systems, scalability, high availability, databases, and algorithms.
- Experience with messaging queues and message brokers, service-oriented architectures, system abstraction, and object-oriented data modeling.
- Experience developing and implementing Order Management Systems (OMS) and Risk Management Systems (RMS).
- Strong analytical and data-oriented problem-solving skills, with the ability to reason about complex technical and operational challenges.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with non-engineering stakeholders.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity, limited process, and the fast pace of an early-stage technology environment.
- Experience with financial markets, exchanges, broker-dealers, clearing, financial ledgers, or related infrastructure is highly valuable.
- Familiarity with FIX protocol, observability, tracing, continuous profiling, benchmarking, statistical or quantitative analysis, and production trading systems is a plus.
- Experience with major cloud platforms, particularly GCP, as well as Docker and Kubernetes, is beneficial.
- Experience hiring and building engineering teams from a small base and working with distributed teams across time zones is advantageous.
